Guipúzcoa

It is located in the Basque Country, in the north of Spain. Along its coastline, which forms part of the Basque Coast, there are spectacular beaches on the Cantabrian Sea and the curious geological formations of the cliffs of Deba and Zumaia.

One of the best known images of this area is the bay of La Concha in its capital, Donostia-San Sebastián, a city that combines stately buildings with modern architecture reflected in buildings such as the Kursaal Palace, where the famous San Sebastián International Film Festival is held.

San Sebastián

A fishing hamlet, a stately urban expansion and modern neighbourhoods make this city one of the most attractive on the Cantabrian coast. The San Telmo Museum, the Comb of the Wind, and the Kursaal are examples of how the city combines tradition and modernity in its layout.

For its part, the province of Gipuzkoa, of which San Sebastian is the capital, fuses sea and mountains, offering travellers not only interesting monuments, landscapes and sports, but also internationally renowned gastronomy.

The urban layout of San Sebastian unfolds overlooking the Bay of La Concha. Monte Igeldo marks the boundary at one end, an unbeatable vantage point from which to enjoy the views over the city.

Basque Cuisine

Basque cuisine has international prestige thanks to the quality of its raw materials and the skill of its chefs, both traditional and imaginative. It must be said that some of the most renowned restaurants in Spain are located in San Sebastian. Recipes made with garden produce, fish and seafood should always be accompanied by Guetaria chacolí/Guetariako Txakolina, with its own Designation of Origin.

Nature

Rivers and valleys guide us through the interior of the province. Following the course of the Oria, the historic towns of Tolosa, Ordizia and Lazkao preserve important monumental legacies. The Urola valley has the old quarter and spa of Cestona/Zestoa, the medieval layout of Azpeitia and the Sanctuary of San Ignacio de Loyola: a Baroque complex that is the centre of Basque religiosity. Bergara, one of the most stately towns in Guipúzcoa, and beautiful hamlets such as Elgeta, spread out across the Deba valley.
