At least 616,788 international students enrolled in study abroad, Erasmus+, language courses, and postgraduate business institutions during the 2017-2018 academic year. Determining that its total economic impact on the Spanish economy reached more than two billion euros (2,143,631,704 euros). For every euro invested in these educational programmes, students spent 0.86 euros more on the non-academic aspects of their stay. In other words, the multiplier effect was 1.86.
