A new event developed by fedele
The Semana del Español (Spanish Week) is a hybrid physical-digital event that will take place on 17th and 18th October in digital format and from 19th to 22nd October 2022 in Madrid with the aim of bringing together language and tourism agencies, federated centres, foreigners, students, teachers and management teams.

This event will have two main themes: training sessions and commercial activities to close deals between participating schools, agencies and institutions. It is an event with different agendas and forms of participation, depending on the profile of the participant, and open to all ELE professionals worldwide.
Federated Centres
Management teams will be able to participate in all activities, including the private session on Wednesday 19th October. Federated centres will have preference in activities and agendas.
Digital-only Assistants
Under this modality, users will be able to follow all the digital activities planned from 1st July to 22nd October, including all the training activities and the Semana del Español gala.
Non-federated Centres
Semana del Español is open to the participation of non-federated centres, which will be able to take part in dozens of activities.
If you are a non-federated centre outside Spain, your category is “International Centre”.
ELE Teachers
The event is design so all teachers can access to training pills and sessions that develop their abilities and knowledges.
If you want to attend to the activity as a representative of a centre and participate in our business activities, your category is “Non-federated centre” or “International Centre”.
Agencies and International Centres
The event has training sessions with a business meeting where international professionals expand their commercialisation channels.
If you are an agency or an international centre, you can get one of our gold invitations, which will let you attend for free.
ELE Students
For the first time, we will have an event for students of Spanish as a foreign language in our country with a big Spanish party in Madrid.

Thanks to the forum on the digital platform of the event, you can learn about and discuss current issues related to ELE sector. The conclusions of this discussion forum will be discussed in one of the face-to-face sessions on 20th October.

Within the digital platform you will find a compilation of free and open material of interest to all ELE professionals; in addition to links of interest, information about FEDELE and our own studies and analysis.
1st September to 16th October: Get to know Spain digitally
You will find tourist information on Spanish cities, as well as virtual visits to museums, monuments and places of interest in our country.
15th September to 1st October: Questionnaire to ELE professionals
We will give all participants the possibility to take part in a large survey on the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language in the world, to finally compile the best answers in the report called “The teaching of Spanish in the world as seen by its professionals”.

Wednesday, 19th October: HIBRID EVENT
09:00 - 10:00 h | Accreditation for participants from federated centres
Throughout the morning, the FEDELE team will accredit the participants and give each one of them all the working documentation for the sessions and presentations of the Semana del Español.
10:00 - 14:00 h | Private session for federated centres
During the accreditation of the attendees, the federated centres (their management teams, teaching staff and sector professionals) will have an activity exclusively for them, where they will be welcomed and Federation matters will be dealt with.
10:00 - 14:00 h | Accreditation for participants from non-federated centres
Throughout the morning, the FEDELE team will accredit the participants and give each one of them all the working documentation for the sessions and presentations of the Semana del Español.
14:00 - 16:00 h | Private lunch for federated centres
The private session will conclude with a lunch offered by FEDELE to its federated centres.
16:30 - 19:30 h | Opening and plenary session
In this activity, all the participants will be brought together to inaugurate the activity. There will be spaces for the presentation of the participants, as well as institutional welcomes from the city and the host association. In addition, working groups will be held to establish the priorities of the ELE sector in the coming years.

As reflected in the latest update of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the role of the teacher as a mediator in the classroom is becoming increasingly important. Moreover, in our ELE classrooms, there are many cultures that intermingle to learn Spanish, so the role of the teacher as intercultural mediator is even more accentuated. Therefore, in this session we will talk about the importance of the teacher as an intercultural mediator in the classroom.

The traditional approach to language teaching, which focused the progression of learning on the correction of errors, is being left behind, giving way to new ways of dealing with errors in the classroom. In this session, we will discuss the emotions that students can develop when faced with mistakes, taking into account their previous beliefs about mistakes, how to modify them and how to make them adaptive to the learning process in order to improve the student’ self-esteem. In addition, we will talk about the development of the student’s personality in second languages.

Everyday metaphors, or cognitive metaphors (as Lakoff and Johnson would point out), are essential in communication in order to understand the true way in which speakers of the same language conceive the world. Through this training, we will learn first-hand how Spanish teachers can offer their students the glasses through which Spanish speakers learn reality, through the use of these metaphors in communication.

A lof of cultural activities in the city: visits to museums, monuments, guided tours of the city and theatrical performances.
19:00 - 22:30 h | "Festival del Español como Lengua Extranjera" Gala
The aim of this gala is to award the best projects of the ELE schools in our country in different categories: best methodological project, ELE teacher of the year, best social responsibility activity, etc.
This activity will include live performances, including theatre, dance and singing. It is a space for the sector to meet and come together: the Festival to celebrate Spanish as a foreign language in our country.

The digital experience
This platform will be active from 1 July to 31 December and will feature a discussion forum with three open topics moderated by the Federation, a monthly updated catalogue of participants, free resources and materials from sponsoring publishers, cultural resources from the city hosting the event, royalty-free resources (film, literature and reports) and many other tools that will help you as an ELE professional.
