09:00 - 10:30 | Textos mapeados en el aula de español ("Mapped texts in the Spanish language classroom") - Javier Loiro - Room A

Session offered by Editorial Difusión

Location: Sala Menor

Speaker: Javier Loiro

We use texts (written or oral) as one of the main tools for teaching foreign and second languages. All of us teachers are particularly concerned about the type of texts we bring to class (what lexical or grammatical aspects they contain, what cultural image they project, etc…), but we also put a lot of effort into the way we exploit them. Our goal is to use its full potential without forgetting to respect the cognitive effort students make when working with it. In this session we will address the novel teaching resources developed for this purpose: mapped texts. We conclude the training with a series of proposals for practical applications to work in the classroom with the aforementioned texts.

Biodata

Javier Loiro has a degree in History and is a specialist in teaching Spanish as a foreign language (ELE). Playing is a fantastic learning technique and tool to use in our classrooms. In “Punto y Coma” magazine we have created a USER’S GUIDE FOR ELE TEACHERS that will teach you a methodology to make your classes more dynamic and fun; we give you creative ideas for each text according to its typology and length. In this workshop we give you many tools to make your classes more dynamic: tips to encourage active listening, gamification, self-assessment activities, mediation activities and activities to reinforce new vocabulary. In addition, we will show you a range and hundreds of topics that connect with any age group at intermediate and advanced levels.

What teachers and students who use “Punto y Coma” in class highlight the most is its richness, its pan-Hispanic vision and its variety of topics. Dare to bring our culture and current affairs magazine to your Spanish classes and surprise your students with something new and fresh.

All attendees will receive a complimentary Teachers’ Guide and premium online access to “Punto y Coma”.

11:00 - 12:30 | Los 5 pilares metodológicos del aprendizaje ACTIVO ("The 5 methodological foundations of ACTIVE learning") - Gabriel Neila - Sala B

Session offered by Edinumen Publishing House

Location: Rehearsal room

Speaker: Gabriel Neila

In the words of Kumaravadivelu (1994), in recent years of language teaching/learning we are facing a scenario in which it is impossible to consider one method or approach as totally effective for any context and learner profile. The author calls this the “post-method era”. Accordingly, teachers must have the ability to know the different methodologies available to us and use what we need for each context, learner or learning situation. Something on which all experts agree is the importance of experiential and active learning on the part of the student. For this learning to be effective, it has to be based on a series of pillars that we consider necessary, regardless of the type of methodology to be used. These 5 pillars are the following: – Inductive learning – Real use of the language – Development of learning strategies – Affective and emotional component – Intercultural speakers in the classroom With this active and experiential workshop we seek reflection, on the part of the participants, on each of the pillars and their importance during the language teaching/learning process. At the same time, different examples will be shown that allow the development of each of the pillars in the ELE classroom connected to different contexts and student profiles.

14:30 - 16:00 | Llena tu clase de experiencias ("Fill your classes with experiences") - Mónica Colás - Room A

Session offered by Edelsa/Anaya publishing house

Location: Sala Menor

Speaker: Mónica Colás

Nowadays it is essential for students to feel that they are the protagonists of their own learning processes and experiences, so one of the main challenges for teachers is to present dynamics and materials that show that they are really an active part of it all. This will allow them to internalize the L2 and develop their communicative skills.

In this workshop, classroom experiences related to different elements linked to meaningful language learning, such as affectivity or metacognition, will be presented and analyzed.
