El D\u00eda de la Cruz<\/em> <\/strong>is one of the most picturesque fiestas<\/em> in the province of Granada.\u00a0 History tells us that in 1625 an alabaster cross was erected in the neighbourhood of San L\u00e1zaro and the act was celebrated with dances.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the 20th century, in the neighbourhoods of Albaic\u00edn<\/strong> and Realejo<\/strong>, children would construct small altars with a cross.\u00a0 The altars were decorated with red and white carnations, embroidered shawls, china dishes, copper cups and an apple with a pair of scissors stuck into it.\u00a0 Around the altars, the children would ask for money \u2013 for a chavico.<\/p>\n

Nowadays competitions<\/strong> are held with different categories and prizes for the decoration of streets, patios, squares, shop windows and schools.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
