New access documentation for the DELE exams in Spain

Due to the special circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the difficulties faced when renewing passports and identification documents, from the March 2021 call for candidates for the DELE exams in Spain, the presentation of the access documentation for the exams will be more flexible.

DELE candidates (all levels except A2) must present the following documentation to the staff at the examination centre:

  • Registration slip that the candidate has received by email.

  • The original passport or official photo identification document presented at the time of registration.

  • The official examination notice, which they will have received from the examination centre, including information on the place, date and time of the written and oral tests.

DELE A2 candidates in Spain must present to the staff at the examination centre:

  • Registration receipt that the candidate has received by email.

  • It is essential to present the original valid TIE, together with the original passport.

  • The official notice of the examination, which they will have received from the examination centre, including information on the place, date and time of the written and oral tests.

In the event that the candidate is unable to present the original passport (due to being held up in court, loss or theft), he/she must justify this by presenting, in addition to the original valid TIE, one of the following documents (depending on the case):

  • Photocopy of the lost or stolen passport.

  • Complaint lodged with the police

  • Application for re-issuance of the passport

Candidates from EU Member States must present to the staff of the test centre:

  • Registration receipt that the candidate has received by e-mail

  • Original passport (whether or not it has expired) and original valid TIE, or the official identity card of the country of origin.

In the case of stateless candidates, they must present to the staff of the examination centre:

  • Registration slip that the candidate has received by e-mail.

  • Foreigners’ Identification Card (TIE) or residence permit showing the NIE number, which is the original valid official identity document with photo that proves that the candidate is legally resident in Spain. If it has expired, access to the hall is possible as long as the candidate provides an original renewal certificate dated less than 90 days from the expiry date of the TIE.

  • Document proving such status

Refugee candidates must present the following documentation:

  • Proof of registration that the candidate has received by e-mail.

  • These candidates will have their passport withdrawn and will be provided with a Foreigners’ Identification Card (TIE) or residence permit (NIE number), which is the original official identity document in force with a photo that proves that the candidate is legally a resident in Spain. The back of the card indicates their refugee status and, if they need to leave Spain, they are issued a travel document (similar to a passport). If it has expired, access to the room is possible as long as the candidate provides an original renewal certificate dated less than 90 days after the expiry date of the TIE.

  • The official examination notice, which you will have received from the examination centre.

In the case of undocumented foreign candidates, they must submit:

  • The registration receipt that the candidate has received by e-mail.

  • The valid photo identification card

  • The official notice of the examination, which they will have received from the examination centre
